How to Build Your Own Greenhouse Greenhouse Gardening
Imagine the feelings of accomplishment and pride you will feel after building your own greenhouse. It is not as hard to build as you may think  and there are a wide variety of designs to  choose from not to mention the huge range of vegetables, flowers or orchids that can be easily grown in a greenhouse.
The following are some tips and factors to take into consideration when thinking about Greenhouse Gardening and building your own greenhouse.

There are many different greenhouse designs but they all fall into  two main categories.

Attached Greenhouse.

This simply means that it is attached to your home. Often described as a Lean-to greenhouse .

The benefits of this type of greenhouse are; direct use of the utilities in the home, such as electricity and water.

The disadvantages are that you may be restricted to size and maximum sunlight requirements for your greenhouse.

Free standing greenhouses Stand alone and are not attached to the home.

Benefits of this style are; depending on the size of your yard you are not restricted as to the size of the greenhouse and can also be placed in a spot to benefit from desired sunlight.

Disadvantages are you may need to invest more in heating, water and electricity resources.

If there is enough space that can accommodate a larger greenhouse, which is more advisable as you can maximize the room to develop more plants and vegetables.

1.  Consider using salvage materials to make a larger greenhouse. You can use these materials in designing and planning for a low cost budget greenhouse. This will also minimize the expenses of the other supplies and materials needed.

2.  Your climate considerations. An insulated greenhouse is appropriate for cold climate areas. This will help provide the needed warmth and heat for your plants. For warmer climates, a greenhouse that has shade control is advisable.

3.  You also need your  greenhouse to be designed with proper air circulation spaces, ventilation, pest control soil, heaters (for winter season), and humidity control devices. The idea is to create an environment that would be appropriate for the types of plants you intend growing in your greenhouse.

4.  The location of the greenhouse is very important and should be built were there is enough sunlight. If you choose to build a solar greenhouse for vegetables and exotic fruit bearing plants then your greenhouse should be situated in location which maximises the most sunlight exposure.

5.  It is also important to consider the covering of the greenhouse. The most advisable shades are the expensive glass made coverings and fiberglass. They provide more durability and they do not deteriorate quickly compared to plastic coverings. A greenhouse covered with glass or fiberglass allows more humidity and warmth.

6. The foundations can be concrete for a more secured greenhouse. Others prefer the less expensive lightweight foundation where they use improvised materials such as railroad ties, which they can easily attach to the ground. It all depends on how much you are willing to spend on the structure of your greenhouse.

7.  Consider the many accessories that will be useful such as automatic watering systems, heating systems, ventilation system and other automatic equipments that are effective in maintaining the plants.

8.  It is a good idea to allot a space where you can store fertilizers, potting soil and other tools that are essential in the greenhouse. Place a tool rack near your potting bench so that it well be easier to transfer soil from the pot to the plants. You will also need somewhere to store buckets and other equipment when they are not in use.

Tip - Have a build a greenhouse day and invite the family and friends over to help. Makes building your greenhouse more enjoyable especially if you throw a barbecue after the job is done.
